Devil's Den Brings 'Drilller' to DVD

LOS ANGELES—As a reminder to anyone who may mistake porn parodies for a newfangled craze, Devil's Den has rolled out 1984's Driller: A Sexual Thriller—a full-on singing, dancing XXX spoof of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video—for the very first time on DVD. Starring adult legend Taija Rae and an MJ lookalike by the name of "Mr. J," Driller was shot on 35mm film and included original music, big dance numbers and some elaborate special effects—not the least of which being Mr. J's power drill-like phallus. Believed to be lost for over 15 years, Driller has been fully restored for this DVD release, which offers never-before-seen footage and bonus features including an interview with producer Timothy Green Beckley. "When originally released in 1984, the stage was set for one of the most controversial cult-adult films of all time," Beckley recollects. "We were accused by the 'straight' press of being pornographers who were ripping off the biggest musical genius of all time ... the so-called 'raicoat crowd' didn't understand what we were trying to accomplish by having an adult movie with real dancers, singers and our own Michael Jackson doppegänger. I am pleased to see Driller making the rounds to an entirely new—more hip—audience who understands that the adult market is a more mixed bag of tricks today."
